Word for Today: The Power of the Tongue
Memory Verse: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21, KJV)
Beloved in Christ,
Today, the Spirit of God reminds us of the immense power hidden in our words. The
tongue, though small, holds the authority to shape destinies, heal wounds, and release
blessings—or, if misused, to cause harm and destruction.
The Tongue Has Creative Power
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” (Proverbs 18:21). Every word we speak carries life or death. Words are spiritual seeds that bring forth fruit after their kind. As children of God, we must learn to speak life—words that align with faith, truth, and righteousness.
The Untamed Tongue Is Dangerous
“But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” (James 3:8).
Without the Holy Spirit, the tongue becomes a weapon of destruction. It can wound, divide, and corrupt. Only a heart filled with God’s love and humility can produce speech that blesses and uplifts others.
Speak as the Oracles of God
“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God…” (1 Peter 4:11). Our words should reflect God’s wisdom and truth. Every believer is a vessel of divine utterance—called to declare grace, hope, and truth to a dying world.
Let Your Words Build, Not Destroy
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” (Ephesians 4:29). Ourspeech must bring healing and encouragement. The believer’s tongue should never be
used for gossip, criticism, or deceit, but to strengthen, comfort, and inspire others in love.
Let Your Words Be Seasoned with Grace
“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” (Colossians 4:6). Words filled with grace carry the fragrance of Christ. They bring wisdom, peace, and transformation wherever they arespoken.
Conclusion:
The tongue is a divine instrument—a gift that must be surrendered to God’s control. Use it to proclaim life, truth, and love. Speak blessings, not curses. Declare faith, not fear. When
our tongues are governed by the Spirit, our words become channels of healing, encouragement, and divine power.
Declaration:
“Lord, let my tongue be an instrument of Your truth. May every word I speak bring life, grace, and glory to Your Name.”
